Announcement: Now contributing to The Star Wars Report

I am proud to announce that I have joined the staff over at The Star Wars Report (http://www.starwarsreport.com/).

What does this mean?  Well the folks behind the Star Wars Report, Riley, Bethany, and Mark have revamped their podcast, formerly The Bothan Report ( at Solosound.net) and re-branded it The Star Wars Report.  In addition to the podcast they have started a new website/blog.  In addition to themselves they are bringing additional voices from fandom to their site.  Aaron Goins has has already made his debut with a report from Star Wars Weekends

What will I be doing on The Star Wars report website?  I will be contributing a weekly news article covering The Clone Wars television series and its related material.  I will also potentially be from time to time contributing other features.

What does this mean for Lightsaber Rattling?  Have no fear loyal readers, this site isn't going anywhere anytime soon.  I will still be providing regular news and commentary on all things Star Wars and will continue daily coverage of the Clone Wars news.  I will also continue my reviews of TCW episodes next season.

For now check out my first Weekly Clone Wars roundup at The Star Wars Report

Lightsaber Rattling Business Cards: I feel like Patrick Bateman

At the same time I ordered stationary pictured in the previous post I also ordered some business cards in case they came in handy at some point.

What do you guys think?

Lightsaber Rattling Stationary: Seeking Reader's Opinions

Just thought I would solicit some opinions on some stationary that I ordered from Vista Print for a good price.  I needed some to apply for a press credential for Comic-Con and I thought it would be a neat thing to have in case some other occasion called for it.

Lightsaber Rattling: Social Media Update (Facebook, Twitter, & Forums)

I thought I would take a minute to say thank you to all the readers for making my little blog an overwhelming success from my perspective, and to let you know where you can find and interact with me in different social media forms.

Lightsaber Rattling has an official Facebook page.  We are up 96 likes and I would love to get that number over 100 soon.  If you haven't liked us yet please do and stop by and leave a comment.

I am also fairly active on Twitter, I usually Tweet (@Pete_Morrison) links to articles as well as engage in #Starwars and #SWEU discussions.  I generally Tweet about Star Wars, but watch out for some sports related tweets and occasionally other topics, but generally you want see me tweeting about standing in line waiting to buy laundry detergent. I am up to 229 followers an would love to see that number get over 250 soon.

I have over the years posted on the Starwars.com Message Boards.  Some of us Internet veterans still like the message board format as a way of interacting.  Call us old, but at least we have evolved away from the AOL chat rooms....With the official site message boards shutting down, I have very happily migrated to the EUCantina.net Forums. This is a message board run by my friends and fellow Star Wars fans over at EUCantina. There is a strong core group of members there as well as a large group of new members joining and even some VIPs.  You should head over and give the great looking new message board design a look, pull up a chair and join the conversation.  Look for me posting as LightsaberRattling so that any fans of the site will be able to easily find me on there.

Lightsaber Rattling Discussed on EU Review Podcast #15 At Solosound.net

One of the fine podcasts in the Solosound family of podcasts, The EU Review hosted by Andrew Lupi and Nathan Butler was kind enough to take up two articles I posted a little while back exploring the the world of Star Wars adult novels and young adult novels to see how many books each author has written, and discover which authors where the most prolific.

Read the original articles yourself:  Young Adult Novel List and Adult Novel List.

Andrew and Nathan break down my lists and add their thoughts and commentary regarding the lists and the authors.

Download the latest episode of The EU Review, episode 15 and you will get this EU author discussion as well as a discussion on video games, The Old Republic tie-in material and Paul S. Kemp's recently released novel Deceived

EUCantina Forums: Where This Refugee From The Starwars.com Forum Will Be Talking Star Wars

With the StarWars.Com Forums (TOS) closing on April 29th, I have been debating where should I go to continue interacting in the realm of message boards with fellow Star Wars fans.

I have decided to make the EU Cantina Forums my new message board home.  I have had the privilege to interact with many of the Cantina members through different mediums, on the TOS forums, on Twitter, and over Skype.  It is both a positive and a fun community of Star Wars fans.

Oh and fortuitous timing, they have just redesigned the forums and boy do they look snazzy.

If like me you find yourself looking for a message board to join with TOS forums closing, then please give the EUCantina.net Forums a look, sign up, and while you are there, say hello to me.  You will see LightsaberRattling hanging around at a corner booth.

A Fanboy's Thanks to the Star Wars Expanded Universe and it's Authors

I can't help but share something really cool that happened today.  One of the coolest things about the growth of the internet and social media, is that it brings fans in much closer contact with those who produce the entertainment products that we consume.

Running a Star Wars fansite, I have had the privilege to interview via email to authors, Paul S. Kemp and John Jackson Miller. I have also been able to interact over Facebook or Twitter with others in Star Wars officialdom.

One of the things those of us who are lucky enough to be involved in the Star Wars Expanded Universe fan community should never forget.  We are incredibly lucky to have an entertainment source such as Star Wars, that has not only provided us with so many hours of entertainment, but has done so for over 3 decades.  The enduring power of the franchise has allowed it to be shared with friends and even children at this point.

Another thing that we should never forget is that whether it be Sue Rostoni on the Starwars.com message boards, Editors like Erich Shoeneweiss on the Star Wars Books Facebook page, or authors like Miller, Kemp, Karpyshyn, etc on twitter or their personal blogs, these folks are under no responsibility to interact with us fans.

The really crazy thing is that if you told 10 year old me, as I was reading Heir to the Empire that I would have the chance to talk to Timothy Zahn, my head would have exploded.

I just happened to see this tweet from Mr. Kemp this morning:
It's nice to read a review by a reader whose reading experience aligned with authorial intent.
It was a big surprise and really made my day when I read what that link contained.  Not only did Mr. Kemp read my review of his latest book, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Deceived, but he liked it enough to link to it and write blog post about it.
You’ve heard often enough that a book, once it’s published, belongs to the readers, to love, hate, or feel indifferent about.   I subscribe to that view fully.  Still, when you write a story, you intend for readers to be struck in a certain way, to take certain things away from the reading experience.   And if you’re lucky,  every now and again you’ll read a review where your intent and the reviewer’s reading experience align.   It’s a nice feeling.
And so it was with Pete Morrison’s review of Deceived on Lightsaberrattling.
I have had some really cool moments as a Star Wars fan, going to a book signing Karen Traviss held in San Diego and getting my copy of Sacrifice autographed, shaking Dave Filoni's hand at the LA Savage Opress Premier, and now this.  I was a bit taken aback for a moment, and I couldn't think about anything but just how darn cool it was. As a Star Wars Fanboy, the thought that my opinion could have an impact on an author is incredible.

Thanks to George Lucas and everyone involved with Star Wars for continuing that magical journey that started in 1977 and provided so much happiness and entertainment to us fans.  May the franchise continue weaving new tales of heroics and adventure for many years to come.

Sincerely,
Peter Morrison

Announcement: New Design for Lightsaber Rattling

Hello Ladies, Gents, and Hermaphroditic Gastropods,

As you will have noticed I have updated the look of Lightsaber Rattling.  The Dark Side is on the rise here at Lightsaber Rattling.

This update effects not only the web version of the site, but for those who view the site on mobile devices, you will see a change as well.  The mobile version of the site will now have a white background instead of black.   Hopefully that makes it easier for mobile users to view as I have had some comments about the black background.

I'm always tinkering with the site, but this was a bit of a major overhaul.  Hopefully you like the new look.  But please positive or negative leave comments to this post to let me know what you think.

I am going to be messing around with gadgets on the main page to attempt to unclutter it, but for the most part most of the clutter is now at the bottom of the page.

Once the Clone Wars season ends, I will be spending some time updating the Novel Timeline, Authors & VIPs, Appendices, and Novel Value Guide Pages.

As always thank you for visiting and stay tuned for more Star Wars news and opinion.

~Pete

Announcement: Lightsaber Rattling's Focus after TCW S.3 Finale

Hey Everybody,

Hopefully you are enjoying Lightsaber Rattling's increased Clone Wars centric coverage. As we approach the end of Season 3, I thought I would give you a heads up on my plans for the direction of the site.

We have 5 more episodes left this season, for which I will continue preview, review(Battle Meditation) and other news and notes. Between Season 3 and the premier of Season 4, I will be providing the occasional Clone Wars news, most likely a once a week update except for major news.

Once TCW ends the focus will be shifting back to the EU with more coverage of book news, more book reviews, and hopefully more author interviews.

I will also be continuing coverage on the Blu Ray release, the 3D Theatrical releases, and any Live-Action TV series news.

There will also be fairly regular opinion columns on whatever topics tickle my fancy.

The future is always in motion, but you can count on Lightsaber Rattling for continued coverage of the galaxy far, far away.

I am almost done with John Jackson Miller's Knight Errant so look for a review of that soon.

It's your chance let me know what you thought of the novel, likes/dislikes, favorite characters, scenes etc.

If we get enough discussion going, I will excerpt portions of it and feature it in an article on LightsaberRattling.com

Thanks to the guys for having me on.

If you haven't already subscribe to We Talk Clones on iTunes or the Zune marketplace and look for my dulcet tones in your podcast feed later this week.

Coming Soon: Review of Clone Wars Episode 3.15 Overlords & Review of Paul S. Kemp's Crosscurrent

Just a heads up for our loyal readers.  This is my plan for this weekend on Lightsaber Rattling.

1) Posting Saturday night: Review of The Clone Wars "Overlords" Episode 3.15.   Saturday night will typically be when reviews appear on this site.

2)  Posting Sunday:  Review of Paul S. Kemp's Crosscurrent.  I have about 80 pages to go in my re-read of this fun EU novel.  I have the sudden urge for some Soup.

3) Sunday Night assuming all goes well with Skype, I will be taking part in my first podcast.  Which one?  Stay tuned for the announcement.

4) Given my schedule this week, my review of John Jackson Miller's novel Knight Errant will not post until next week, Thursday most likely.

Lightsaber Rattling @ the Web

This site was recently mentioned on two great SWEU Podcasts.

In the latest edition of EU Cast #116 "Cover Your Ears", co-host Mark mentions us around the 1 hour 49 minute mark.

To listen to EUCast #116:  LINK

In the latst edition of The Sarlacc Pit:  Official Podcast of Galactic Binder, we actually got two mentions.  The first unattributed mention was our Year in Review Question about favorite new EU character and story arc.  The second mention was by guest co-host Riley (from The Bothan Report).
