Bonnie Wright, JK Rowling and What is Pottermore?

The Boy Who (Maybe) Just Kept on Living: What is Pottermore?
2011 is turning out to be a big summer for Harry Potter fans. Of course, the last movie installment of the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, will be released on July 15th. But it seems that J.K. Rowling has even more up her sleeve.

Rowling has publicized the existence of a new webiste, pottermore.com, which right now displays only web page with the cryptic message, "Coming soon" and Rowling's signature. The content of the website is as of yet unknown-- fans speculate that it could contain anything from the release of a comprehensive Harry Potter encyclopedia to the announcement of a new Harry Potter book or related series.

According to an article on TIME's newsfeed, "In keeping with the magical world of Potter, no less than 10 Potter websites were given coordinates which related to a letter in the word 'Pottermore,' and ultimately gave away the website's address." The secrecy and hype surrounding this mysterious new website certainly indicate that whatever Rowling has in store will be of great interest to her fans. But what if Pottermore turns out to be a disappointment?

Harry Potter has been one of the most successful children's book series ever written, in many ways-- promoting literacy for kids, raising money for charities, and inspiring fan sites, box office-busting movies, and an entire theme park at Universal Studios. I wonder how much farther we can push poor Potter.

Having been one of those kids who counted down the days to the next Potter release and going to Borders at midnight to pick up my copy of the newest book, I can comfortably say that Rowling's books made a huge impact on my childhood and are very close to my heart. I am loathe to see the series cheapened or exploited for more hype and profit.

Rowling will announce the purpose of Pottermore June 23, 2011 at 7:00 AM EST on Good Morning America.

My hope for Pottermore, whatever it might be, is that it will push Harry Potter in a new direction and avoid a mere replay of the world and characters that we all know and love. In the words of Albus Dumbledore: "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."

JK Rowling’s Big Announcement For Harry Potter
Entering the Harry Potter World, we encounter the opening of a new website called Pottermore.com. J.K. Rowling launched the website with the words “Pottermore, Coming Soon” and a countdown clock. The clock counts down to the date of June 24th but the author has been silent as to the reason about the site and what she is creating. A twitter account on the website has also been created to set up updates. As of Thursday, it already has 40,000 followers. According to NBC News, one tweet states that it “Looks like the owls are getting ready to deliver some exciting news.” J.K. Rowling has been widely appraised for her Harry Potter series and her writing has claimed all readers of all ages and nations. The first of the Harry Potter books, The Philosopher’s Stone, was published in June 1997 but was later republished the next year as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.  The series have been widely read across the globe and, according to The Boston Globe, has been translated into 65 languages and more than 300 million copies have been sold. So now with seven books released and the film franchise coming to an end, what more will she add? According to People, her spokesperson has already stated that the big announcement will not be “directly related” to the final film, nor will it mean a new book to the series. Who knows what her big surprise will be? Guess we have six days to speculate and find out.

As fans await Pottermore, another ‘glamorous’ Harry Potter surprise emerges
Stunning, elegant and all grown up. Bonnie Wright, 20, who starred as the demure Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter series looks completely unrecognizable in the above picture.

Following the promotional events for the release of the final Harry Potter edition, Harry Potter and the Deadly Hollows: Part II; Bonnie completed a photo-shoot for the cover of Haute Muse magazine.

The release of the cover picture of Bonnie Wright came as a surprise in the midst of the ongoing Potter-mania over the release of a new platform, Pottermore, a website, by author JK Rowling. Bonnie looked quite different in the Harry potter series and so, apparently, she wanted to alter her school girl image for a more glamorous look.

Sunday time: The Gift

On Thursday night, June 9, 2011, we went to Casa da Musica to listen, during the event Clubbing, the Portuguese band The Gift perfoming the new album Explode

Lobby Casa da Musica | Porto (Portugal)

The Gift is one of most succeed bandwell known in Portugal and other countries as Spain, Canada (Toronto) and United States (New York).

For 17 years, without management or outside labels, they’ve grown famous in their home country and Spain by recording in their converted garage.

"Arguably, they’ve built a small empire around high-drama, English-language anthemic indie rock by garnering sponsorships, opening for the likes of Flaming Lips in the US, and becoming the “first Portuguese band to X” - X being everything (like getting a spot on MTV UK)".

The Guilhermina Suggia hall was complete! A lot of people on stairs just applauding, singing and dancing on every theme of Explode and some 'classical'  songs of the band as several 'encore'. The band hit the stage!

Frontwoman Sonia Tavares, a true diva who had crooned and high-kicked through a demanding hours-long set: “Do you want more? Dance and sing to us because we’re going to play until going directly to Toronto fly…”

The audience wedeeply applauded the talent of the band and this album, very explosive! Sounds, colours, talent!

Positive thinking and bright colors are The Gift’s hallmarks, right down to the pastel keyboards.

For Explodethey based their album art around a trip to the Holi festival in rural India, where they were doused from head to toe.

“We always wanted this album to be an explosion of color, of joy, of happiness, and positivity,” John said. “It was the perfect location… we were there a week celebrating the festival with a local photographer in the temples, throwing the traditional colored powder at each other. All the while we understood that all of the people around us were so happy with so little.”

Explode which hit number 1 in Portugal album sales. Here the playlist.

An amazing night of indie rock, a lots of colour, joy and dancing where the seats were no barrier!

"If you love pretty colors, you'll love Portuguese music mainstay The Gift, an anthemic indie rock band that's been DIY for 17 years."

I came across this photo today and it reminded me of the video of Casey Neistat getting a ticket for not riding his bike in the bike lane.  Even though he later found out after paying the $50 fine that it wasn't even fucking illegal.  He retaliated with this brilliant video released at the beginning of the month.  If you haven't seen it yet, you really should.  It is amazing.

Pottermore countdown clock is revealed on YouTube

"Harry Potter fans have been sent into a frenzy of excitement after the creator of their favourite wizard, JK Rowling, launched a mysterious new website"

The Guardian | Books

The project was unveiled when Rowling set fans some clues yesterday, June 16, asking them to enter 10 sets of coordinates into a site called secretstreetview.com. A letter could be found at each location, spelling out the Pottermore name.
The website, Pottermore.com shows the word 'Pottermore' on a pink background, with a message 'coming soon...' and Rowling's famous signature.
A Twitter account, @Pottermore, has also been set up on June 16 too and already has almost 44,000 followers.
Some readers are praying that the news might be a new Potter book, although Rowling has previously said it is "highly unlikely" that she would write more Harry Potter novels.
"I've got enough story for seven books and I never planned to carry the story beyond the end of book seven. I might do an eighth book for charity, a kind of encyclopedia of the world so that I could use all the extra material that's not in the books ... we'll see!"
J.K.Rowling
However, she did tell Oprah Winfrey in an interview last year that she could "definitely write an eighth, ninth [and] 10th book", adding "I think I am done but you never know".
It is rumoured that the interactive site will be a meeting place for fans offering games, a Harry Potter encyclopaedia, readings by Stephen Fry and competitions. Fans will also be able to buy the books.

J.K. Rowling's POTTERMORE: What Does it Mean for Harry Potter Fans?

I am not a huge Harry Potter fan, but I do love a good mystery. This would have had me obsessed as a young girl.

First, this goes up on YouTube way back in February. Which is like a thousand years in Internet time. So most people had forgotten about it until today.

When this appeared. This is a screen shot taken today of Rowling's mysterious new website, Pottermore.com

Then the Pottermore Twitter account spit out these coordinates. Using Google Maps shows a pretty mundane street.

And there are even more tantalizing visual clues on the official Pottermore Facebook page.

Off Topic: What is Pottermore?

Harry Potter author J.K Rowling has a new website up called Pottermore.

The site itself is under construction with a tantalizing "Coming Soon" tag on it.

Will Pottermore be a new series of tales in the universe of Harry Potter, a set of tales told from a different perspective, or a story about owls?

I was a late comer to the Harry Potter phenomenon, being introduced to the movies, which as they progressed got darker and more interesting to me and gave me the motivation to go back and read the books.  J.K. Rowling provided an intensely entertaining tale and I certainly look forward to what I hope is more stories in the same universe from this talented author.

P.S. Ginny is my favorite.

Star Wars Sundries: TV, Blu-ray, Book, and Collecting News

Lots of little tidbits that deserve attention, but not sure I want to write that many posts, so lets do them all in one major download.

Blu-ray News:

Play.com has posted what looks to be our first look at the clip of finished documentary footage from the Star Wars Complete Saga Blu-ray.  The clip features an interview with Ewan McGregor and vintage footage of Denis Lawson who played Wedge Antilles in the OT.

Book News:

Star Wars Books on Facebook posted a mini-excerpt from author Paul S. Kemp's next book, Rip Tide.
Khedryn cleared his throat. “So, then, do you have a plan? What do we do about the escaped clones?”
“We find them,” Jaden said.
“Yeah, I figured that. I’m all ears about how.”
“First I need to speak to Grand Master Skywalker.”
Star Wars Books on Facebook also announced the artists that will be illustrating The Essential Readers Companion.
I've been busy talking and emailing with so many talented artists the past few weeks. I'm thrilled to announce that Jeff Carlisle and Chris Trevas will be illustrating Pablo Hidalgo's STAR WARS: THE ESSENTIAL READERS' COMPANION book, on sale in August 2012! (ES)

 COLLECTING:

Jedi Temple Archives has posted images and preliminary details of a new Savage Opress Maquette from Gentle Giant.  This thing looks awesome and could be a must have for collectors and TCW fans.

Television News:

On the Live-Action Series front, Den of Geek has pulled back the curtain and it appears found one of the writers that contributed to the pile of scripts sitting on George Lucas' bookshelf.

A source has revealed to us that British writer, Matthew Graham, is one of the team that Lucas recruited to the project.
Graham is best known for co-creating and co-writing Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes, and we recently saw his work in Doctor Who, too, where he penned the two-parter, The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People.
We got in touch with Matthew Graham and asked him whether the news was true. All he would say to us was that he had done some work out at LucasFilm during 2008 and 2009 "on something unbelievably cool", and that his contract "had come to an end". "I hope one day I'll be able to talk about it," he told us.
Comingsoon.net has some news from the Licensing International Expo 2011 (LX11) and apparently there is going to be an animated Lego Star Wars television special in Fall 2011.  We know that TCW actors spent time lending their voices to the Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, so I would imagine that much of those same voice actors would be used for this special.  It will be interesting to see what this special is and exactly how it fits or doesn't fit into the continuity.

Club Jade also has an interesting little tidbit from a recent interview that George Lucas did with CNN, where he is talking about another animated show, Star Wars: Detours.  The speculation being that this is the secret project that Robot Chicken creators Seth Green and Matt Senreich have been working on.
