Picture taken of Vancouver 3 hours after they lose the Stanley Cup Finals.

Stanley Cup Riot 2011; Vancouver, Beautiful British Columbia.

http://vancityriotcriminals.tumblr.com/

There were 70,000 raging lunatics in the streets last night.  It is rumoured that one Bruins fan was tossed over a bridge and killed. Luongo, from what I have read, is still unharmed, so figure that shit out.

In the above video a man tried to deter people from smashing windows of businesses, shouting "This is MY city!!" and he, in turn, was beaten.

But there were 1300 (and counting) lovely Vancouverites up bright and early to help clean up the remains of the chaos and embarrassment that occurred:

Unfortunately, the looting is still pretty widespread as the police try to keep up with the people of Vancouver who need widescreen TVs and Hudson's Bay blankets to keep them warm after the loss of the cup:

Of all of the shame and disgusted comments I have read on Twitter, Facebook, and various comment boards, I think this one sums it up pretty nicely:

"I don't think I'm going to move to Vancouver after all.  It's not the city I thought it was."

Slave Lake Fires Destroy 50% of Town. City in State of Emergency. UPDATES

“Ten minutes in the town and it was black," said volunteer firefighter Wayne Bacon. "You couldn’t see. People were going out of town like crazy. All four highways were closed. Finally they let us all get out."

"The town is gone," one woman sobbed. "There's nothing left. There's places where there should have been houses, and they're gone. We lost everything."

If anyone is able to help, here are some ways to do so:

TWITTER: Check the hashtags "#slavelakefires", "#slavelakefire", "#slavelake" and "#Wildfire". People are checking in to ask for assistance and offer help every minute.  Many have already found places to stay, families willing to allow their yards to be camping areas, and many many mothers parting with children's items for the misplaced families. And don't forget the Edmonton hashtag "#yeg".
FACEBOOK: Slave Lake and Community Message Board is connecting people through Facebook.  People are suggesting items the residents may need, offering places to stay, and alerting people as to what items they are willing to donate (baby clothes, food, blankets, etc.)
ALBERTA WILDFIRES LIVE is a live blog that is updating the situation in real time.
RED CROSS ALBERTA is taking donations via Twitter as well as their website for Slave Lake disaster relief. Their phone number is 1-800-418-1111.
FOR INFORMATION ON LOVED ONES call 1-800-565-4483.
WILDFIRE ROAD CLOSURE HOTLINE: 780-644-5653.
EDMONTON EMERGENCY RELIEF accepting slavelake donations starting at 10AM at 10255 104 Street. Unopened toiletries, clean bedding/towels.

Ben Folds Covers Ke$ha's 'Sleazy'.

It never occurred to me that people may not have heard this yet, because it is necessary if you enjoy Ben Folds and things that are great.

It was recorded for the Tsunami Relief Fund.

"fuck a duck."

**Title courtesy of Mr. LePage.**

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Gilbert Gottfried was fired from his job as the voice of the Aflac duck (which consisted solely of saying ‘Aflac’) this week after a series of “insensitive” tweets about the Japanese tsunami.
Perhaps for obvious reasons, I always take much greater offense to people telling comedians what they can and can’t joke about than I do to the content of any supposedly “offensive” joke.
Are “insensitive” words going to make more people die?  Will they prevent anyone from donating to relief efforts?  Does acting very somber and humbled actually help anyone?  Or is it just a way to make the “somber” person feel like a caring humanitarian?  I pose these questions as rhetoricals, because I’d hope the answers are obvious to any half-bright individual.

THAT’S HIS JOB, as a comedian, to find the humor in something before the rest of us do.

And that is to say nothing of the EVEN MORE obvious fact that anyone who knows anything about Gilbert Gottfried knows that 85% of the man’s career is making insensitive jokes.  Remember that movie, The Aristocrats?  That entire idea for that movie started because Gilbert Gottfried told the joke at a Hugh Hefner Roast.  The roast was taped shortly after 9/11, and Gilbert Gottfried told a 9/11 joke, at which point people yelled “too soon!” and then, as a way to keep from bombing hard and ruining the show, he went into his insanely dirty version of the old joke The Aristocrats and brought everyone back.  Can you see what I’m getting at here?
THIS IS THE SAME GUY WHO SPAWNED ‘THE ARISTOCRATS’, WHICH ITSELF WAS SPAWNED BY HIM TELLING 9/11 JOKES RIGHT AFTER 9/11.

And he was the voice of the Aflac duck for a FULL DECADE after that.

It was for appearances.  75% of AFLAC's profits are tied to Japan.  Let's not make this more than it is.  It's economics, not propriety.  Plain and simple.

The Loyalty of a Dog.

Another human being's suffering is never that far from home.

"Heys pretty!
If you get the chance, please do a short tweet/blog post for Zack Finfrock's 24-Hour Draw-A-Thon in aid of Japan. http://www.livestream.com/zackdrawsthings It's totally the sort of thing you should be getting via Facebook, if you were still ON Facebook, but instead, I'm just emailing it to you."

Absolutely. *

I have done very little for the relief efforts besides donate to the Red Cross and we have two big bags of clothes and blankets etc that we are putting together for them as well.  I shall be taking my own advice, I assure you.  My friend Amber (who happens to have a Twitter page now-YAY-and blog about robots that I will link at the bottom of the page) does a Magic Penny every month and is dedicating this month's to relief efforts in Japan, she just needs some creative ideas.  She was thinking perhaps books, because standing around while your city floods/burns/evacuates and you are left with no drinking water/electricity/food/emergency services/company can get pretty depressing.  A good book can be the escape into another world that may very well be needed.

I mean, for Christ's sake, emergency personnel can not even BEGIN to reach the areas in desperate need.  The damage is too extensive.  I just imagine people who have lost (sometimes literally: check out the video of the woman who had a hold of her daughter until a wave came and the mother watched her child washed downstream) everything they have ever known in  their lives and are now just waiting... waiting for help, waiting for direction, waiting to die?   It breaks my heart.

So, try to do something, Guys.  Twitter and Facebook groups are fine, but maybe if you have things around your house you aren't using... money you were going to use to take a trip that can be put off for a few months... even TIME to help pack up supplies at your local Red Cross depot, please do what you can.  These people have NOTHING LEFT.

All the world peace preaching in the world doesn't do what the support of another during a time of crisis can.

*Amber, if you have any links or any other info in mind, let us all know.  And Christina, I wish your friend luck in his Draw-a-Thon.  He's a good man.
