And now the creator of 'Our Choice' app

Yesterday, I wrote about this Our Choice's Al Gore for iPad. It's also runn on iPhone and iPod.

Today, here the the presentation by Mike Matas at TED Talks, posted last April.

Software developer Mike Matas talks about demos the first full-length interactive book for the iPad with clever, swipeable video and graphics and some very cool data visualizations to play with.

Mike Matas has worked on some of the most intriguing tech projects of the past 10 years. While at Apple, Mike Matas helped write the user interface for the iPhone and iPad. Now with Push Pop Press, he's helping to rewrite the electronic book.

Education:

Do you remember my 1st post about iPad features and education July 10, 2010? I wrote "we are looking forward to experiment this amazing media device! Don't you think? It's like love at first site!"

After that, I wrote I would love iPad 2 in the classroom, Some apps for iPad helping education and recently Earth Day 2011: a story about the forest

Reading in the classroom Alice in WonderlandPrince of Persia,  Aesop's Fables or Who cares about the forest? become such a pleasure!

And now Our Choice? I am fascinated! Did you see when Matas blew up on iPad and iPhone and the aeolian turbines moved? Impressive!

Oh! Our students will love it! The new generation of kids is very curious about Climate crisis. And they engaged a lot on Environmental activities in the school.

Talk about new generation of kids and engaging... this 'new generation' of digital book would get even the most recalcitrant students investing in their own learning.

Well, perhaps you already know this presentation. But, to me it is a pleasure to hear the creative Mike Mata explaining how it works.

Even for the students, it might be wonderful to watch this marvellous explanation. They will explore the app in a different dimension.

Mike Matas will be online May 6th, from 1-2:30PM Eastern Standard Time for a live TED Conversation regarding his TED talk and next-generation digital book, Al Gore's "Our Choice"

You can join with your questions.

Al Gore: Our Choice a digital book

Mike Matas & Kimon Tsinteris (Push-Press engeneers)

"I am so thrilled that Our Choice has come to life on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch" (...) "Readers can now learn about the solutions to the climate crisis using some of the most visually compelling and interactive technology available."

Al Gore

Al Gore, the former vice president’s production company Melcher Media approached Mike Matas in September 2009 to create an app version of Our Choice

Gore wanted his book app to contain videos, diagrams and other forms of multimedia that would flex on iPad, iPhone and iPod.

Gore’s book, which lives in the App Store since April 28, is in part a demonstration of the capabilities of Push Pop Press, (San Francisco, USA) Mike Matas & Kimon Tsinteris new company. They were Apple formal engeneers.

"It’s a bit like walking through a digital museum. When you first launch the app, you see a cover of a 3-D animation of a spinning globe with the title superimposed over it. Tapping into the intro plays a video of Gore introducing the book’s topic."

"I'm excited to announce my new app, Our Choice is going on sale today. It is a fully interactive full-length book App that describes all of the solutions to the climate crisis with animations, interactive info-graphics, pictures, audio, text, an hour of documentary video and more. I am donating 100% of the proceeds I would otherwise receive to the Alliance for Climate Protection."

Al Gore, April 28 2011

Education:

A rich app to motivate the students for Climate in Sciences, Geography, Civics classrooms!

It's impossible not to share such a wonderful interactive book! I would like to have this type of e-textbook in my classroom. And of course my students too.

"It is now abundantly clear that we have at our fingertips all of the tools we need to solve the climate crisis. The only missing ingredient is collective will."

Al Gore

Happy New Year 2011

The future is robotic

"The robots are coming. The second decade of the 21st century will see the rise of a mechanised army that will revolutionise private and public life just as radically as the internet and social media have shaken up the past 10 years."

Marina Gorbis, futurologist and head of Californian thinktank The Institute for the Future.

The innovation is in our life everyday! And that is splendid! Innovation and creativity are in music too! Perhaps the most innovative art crossing the centuries. From classical, to pop-rock, jazz, alternative or electronic. There are wonderful composers, musicians, innovative projects.

Now we have music using the latest Techonologies! Arcade Fire and Google maps, Gorillaz composing on iPad. So, we can say, dawn of the age of the Tech music!

"Music is the poetry of the air", said Jean Paul Richter. Read some music quotes and choose the perfect one to begin the New Year!

Did you find an inspirational music quote to add to the soundtrack of your life?

"My idea is that there is music in the air, music all around us; the world is full of it, and you simply take as much as you require."

Edward Elgar

My idea? Just follow the music of your heart! Enjoy it!

Happy New Year 2011!!

Dawn of the age of the robot

Ipad features & Education ?

Ipad is not for sale in Portugal... not yet.
But when we see this video we are looking forward to experiment this amazing media device! Don't you think? It's like love at first site!

But people who know it well say that tablet Apple is heavier than Kindle. It's necessary to hold iPad with both hands. And it slides easily on our knees.
When we write on Ipad is a bit boring because finger touches stay on screen and the reflexs too.

The keyboard is strait, the accents and punctuation are very hard to do, even with auto-correction! But browsing is so fast! Image and sound so marvelous!

Tired, they say, but fascinated!

Steve Jobs said that more than a million of Ipad tablet was sold in 28 days! Wow! And more than 5 millions of e-books to the tablet were download in the first 65 days from iBookstore that is dedicated to e-books from Apple.

iBooks App

Reading children's literature, that's amazing. Yet even with all the extras, reading is so natural on iPad, the technology seems to disappear.

Alice for iPad

Do you remember "Alice in Wonderland" here? It was so fun and so beautiful! I was fascinated! I'm not a digital native, but I'm a digital pioneer... and love to be and to follow this amazing evolution of multimedia

On Youtube you can see some videos with 2 years old children interacting easily ing wit iPad! That's not amazing! Children are born on digital era.

Marvel Comic (demonstration)

For example, reading comics with Marvel application is like to enter in another dimension. True, right?

The application iBooks, as well as being available on iPad, is available on iPhone since April as a free download through the App Store.

The application includes iBookstore (interesting!) wich allows to browse, buy and read on a mobile device, wich has over 60,000 titles available.

When users are reading a book, they may to do marks, highlights and notes. The users of iBooks can also read and right PDF directly in the application.

And they will be able to read the same book on their iPad, on iPhone or iPod touch!

A new and wonderful media world to use on Education! I 'm sure that young people would like this kind of reading! Exciting!

Education:

You can use iPad for reading in classroom. Students will be delighted!

And now, Alice for the Ipad

Alice - Ipad screenshot

Of course I love paper books. But I have to admit that e-books can, indeed, do stuff that paper books cannot.

A good example of this is Alice for the iPad, Lewis Carroll’s story of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland turned into a children’s storybook but with an interactive twist.

Every illustration is restored from the original Alice in Wonderland book, by Lewis Carroll, then rendered in mesmerising full-color.

This iPad app includes 52 pages and 20 amazing animated scenes. It’s stunning!

Alice - Ipad screenshot

The story will never be the same twice because you’re Alice’s guide through Wonderland.

Yes, still I bealive (and practice) that reading should be a quiet and relaxing activity, and that there’s nothing quite like communing with the pages of a well-read classic, but this video makes reading “Alice in Wonderland” look likes like a lot of fun.

Techonologies and imagination don't stop! Marvelous!
