The teenage stars of the latest Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, worked the red carpet at the premiere some weeks ago. The crowds went wild, but old hands at the game, JK Rowling, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint stayed cool.
Daniel Radcliffe told reporters: “At the time I was looking at it as just another script – another Harry Potter script – and I didn’t really take into account that it was going to be so different and then I saw it the other day and I was just going, my God, it’s a completely different feel to the whole film because you don’t have that comfy familiarity of those corridors and those big set pieces.”
Emma Watson added: “It was very liberating, I think it would have felt very stale to have like a seventh Harry Potter movie where you’re in the Great Hall (of Hogwarts School for Witches – featured in the previous movies) again. I just feel that it gave it so much more energy that we were on the road and in a completely different environment and it really made us step up and give different performances.”
Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, said: “The last 10 years have been an amazing experience and I’ve enjoyed every day of it, but I think we’re all ready now and we all want to move on and explore different roles.”
